Each of these paintings is done by hand and depicts a leaf, bud, or bloom Mary finds personally inspiring. There are times a single flower in a photo is her inspiration for a piece of art, and she pays special attention to its intricate details and delicate designs. Mary’s hope is that her paintings embody a distinct beauty and light that is meant to inspire, empower, and energize those who see it. As well as the original painting, most are also available in various sizes of hand-signed, fine art giclée prints and greeting cards. Custom-sized and larger giclée prints and archival canvas prints are available upon request.
How they are made~
“Like my hand-hooked flower rugs, I often work from photos taken on hikes and walks through nature trails, botanical gardens, neighbor’s yards, and plant nurseries which serve as inspiration for my paintings. From there, my intuition takes over to freely transform the piece in whatever way feels right. I sketch the basic outline of the image on Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper, then paint free-form using professional quality watercolor and gouache paints. The watercolors allow me to create subtle, transparent, layered effects in some areas of my paintings, and the gouache paints allow me to create more bold, opaque, matte effects in other areas. They are the ideal paints to create the colors, layers, depth, textures, and shapes I find inherent in nature.”
